The app
All of Tuno’s settings and data stay on your Mac. Tuno contains no advertising or tracking, and sends nothing about which features you use or how.
Permissions
Some features need a macOS permission. Tuno uses each one only for its feature:
- System Audio Recording
- For per-app volume, volume boost and the equalizer. Audio is never recorded or sent anywhere.
- Microphone
- Only for the level test on the Input page. Nothing is recorded.
- Accessibility
- For shortcuts, mouse buttons, scrolling, middle click and brightness keys.
- Focus status
- Optional, to show a short alert in the notch when Focus turns on or off. Tuno only reads whether Focus is on.
- Screen Recording
- For window switching and Dock previews. Images are only used for previews and are never saved or sent.
You can turn permissions off at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security.
Clipboard history
When clipboard history is on, what you copy is stored only on your Mac. Items that password managers mark as sensitive are never saved. You can clear the history or turn the feature off at any time.
Updates
To find out whether a new version is available, Tuno checks the update list on this website. The request includes the Tuno version, macOS version, Mac model (for example Mac14,2), processor type and a random install number. Tuno generates the install number at random on first launch; it isn’t derived from your device, your hardware or you, and it’s used only to count how many Macs Tuno is installed on and which versions are in use. Our server stores an irreversible hash of it, not the number itself. None of this includes your name, email or account; it also shows us which macOS versions and Macs to support. Tuno also sends a one-time “new install” note on its first check on a Mac and a one-time “still in use” note a week later; neither contains a date or identifier. Your IP address isn’t kept in our statistics, only the country it comes from. As with any web request, our server may briefly keep your IP address in its logs for security. You can turn off automatic checks in Settings › General.
From Tuno 1.5, the request also includes the interface language you chose in the app (for example English) and the appearance (light, dark or automatic); this is used only to count which languages and appearances are in use.
Crash reports
If Tuno quits unexpectedly, it asks the next time it opens whether you’d like to send the crash report; nothing is sent without your permission. The report includes the Tuno and macOS versions, your Mac model and the technical details of the error. Before sending, your user name, folder paths and device-specific identifiers are removed from it. You can change this in Settings › General › Privacy.
This website
This website uses no cookies, advertising or third-party analytics, and serves its fonts from our own server. To improve the site we measure, without cookies, which pages are opened, which site visitors come from (domain only), how fast pages load and where on a page people click. For clicks, only the button or link that was clicked is recorded; nothing you type is ever recorded. While a page is open, a small “on the site now” signal is sent every half minute. Your answer to “Was this guide helpful?” under guides, and any short note you choose to add, is kept to improve the guides. Your IP address isn’t stored; we keep only the country it comes from and a short code that changes every day and can’t be reversed. These measurements are deleted after 180 days.
Your language choice and the announcements you dismiss are stored only in your browser. The song and equalizer on the site run entirely in your browser.
Tuno news
If you subscribe to the newsletter, your email address and language are stored only to send you release notes and Tuno news. When you subscribe, you get a welcome email explaining what we’ll send. Every email has an unsubscribe button; once you unsubscribe, we won’t send you newsletters or release notes again.
Support
The name, email, message and any screenshots you send through the support form are kept only so we can reply, and reach us by email. They’re never used for anything else or shared with anyone. Hidden details such as location are removed from screenshots before they’re saved. To have them deleted, just write to us.
The Tuno User ID shown in Tuno › Support is a short number derived irreversibly from the install number, and it doesn't change with updates. To be able to help you, our server keeps, together with this ID, the Tuno version installed on your Mac, the macOS version, Mac model, processor type, country and when it was last seen; your name, email or account isn't linked to this record. Support mode turns on only when you enter and confirm a code given by our support team, and it lasts at most 30 minutes. During that time Tuno talks to our server and the support team can see and change Tuno's settings; every change is listed on the Support page. The contents of your clipboard history are never sent. Changing the version, resetting or restoring settings and sending a diagnostics package are asked of you first. A diagnostics package contains system information, the state of permissions, audio devices and displays, Tuno's settings, Tuno's own log and a list of recent crashes; it's kept only for support. Tuno's log stays on your Mac and is sent only in a diagnostics package you approve. If you agree to send a crash report, your Tuno User ID is included in it. You can end the session at any time, and it ends right away when Tuno quits.
File sharing
Files you drop on Tuno's file shelf in the notch stay on your Mac; they're uploaded to our server only when you press "Get link". Files you upload at gettuno.info/upload are stored the same way. Each file is kept as a single copy, never backed up, and deleted automatically after 6 hours, after which the link shows "expired". Alongside the file we keep only its name, size, upload time and how many times it was downloaded. We don't look inside files, but if abuse is reported we may delete a file before it expires. Anyone with the link can download the file, so take care when sharing anything private.
If you email the link, the recipient's address is used only to send that email and isn't stored. The email contains the file name, size and link, not your name or address. To prevent abuse, a daily code that can't be reversed is derived from your IP address and kept only for that day.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page.
