Short answer

macOS stops at 100%. Tuno can boost an app’s volume up to 150% or 200%, which makes quiet videos, podcasts and calls easier to hear on MacBook speakers.

In macOS

macOS has no volume boost. The Music app’s “Sound Enhancer” and the “Loudness” setting in some apps help a little, but only inside those apps.

With Tuno

  1. 1

Open Tuno and allow “System Audio Recording”.

  2. 2

In Tuno › General, set “Maximum volume” to 150% or 200%.

  3. 3

In the menu bar panel, drag the app’s slider past the marker at 100%. Boosted levels are shown in orange.

  4. 4

For all sound at once, try the “Loudness” equalizer preset.

macOS 15 or later, Mac with Apple silicon.

Frequently asked questions

Will boosting damage my speakers?

Tuno uses a limiter to keep the sound from clipping. As with any speaker, very high levels for long periods are not recommended.

Can I boost only one app?

Yes. The boost is per app, so a quiet video can be louder while everything else stays the same.
